Best Gloves for Sheet Metal Work

Sheet Metal is a thin and versatile metal many companies use for building and manufacturing.

However, working with sheet metal can be dangerous, and you will need the right cut-resistant gloves for sheet metal work.

Good industrial gloves with a high cut resistance level are advised for sheet metal work.

Sheet Metal Glove Types

Sheet metal workers fabricate metal or install sheet metal. They need high-cut-resistant gloves like the following, so high ANSI cut-rated gloves are recommended.

  • 9366BK – These Kevlar string knit general work gloves with a light cut and abrasion resistance are still suitable for sheet metal work. The gloves have a grippy palm and are a 7 Guage DuPont, which is ideal.
  • N9878BNF – The DuPont Kevlar gloves have a high-performance yarn with high cut and abrasion resistance. They usually have a Breathable Nitrile Foam or BNF coating for grip and vibration protection.
  • 9178NF – The Kevlar gloves have high-performance yarn, high cut levels, and abrasion resistance. They are designed mostly for working with sharp objects and have a Nitrile foam coating on the palms for grip.

Cut-Resistance Levels

Here are the different cut-resistance and abrasion resistance levels explained;

  • Cut-Resistance – Cut Resistance levels are tested and measured according to ANSI/ISEA 105:2016 Standards and ASTM F2992-15 Cut Resistance Test Methods. You get level A3, the highest-rated cut-resistant gloves; the resistance lowers from A4 to A9, which is the least suitable for sheet metal work.
  • Abrasion Resistance – Abrasion resistance is tested using ANSI/ISEA 105:2016 Standards, and Abrasion Resistance Test Method ASTM D3389-15 for coated gloves, and Abrasion Resistance Test Method ASTM 3884-09 for uncoated gloves. Most A3 Abrasion-resistant gloves are suitable for sheet metal work with high cut resistance.
  • Gauge – Most knitted style gloves use yarn from 7 to 18 Gauge to increase thickness. The higher the gauge, the thicker the glove will be.
  • Puncture Resistance – ANSI/ISEA 105:2016 Standard testing methods, and Puncture Resistance Test Methods EN388, are used to test Puncture resistance levels. A Puncture resistance level of around $ is suitable for sheet metal work.

  • Shell – The glove shell can consist of a Kevlar, Nitrile, or other durable and abrasion-resistant materials. Most gloves have a BNF foam Nitrile palm with a grippy surface for grip on wet and oily items. The gloves will have spandex or lycra for stretch with breathable materials and usually have a knit elastic wrist.
  • Cut-Resistance – Sheet Metal work gloves need a high cut and abrasion-resistant level, which can be between ANSI Levels 9 and 3.
  • Gauge – The gauge refers to the thickness and abrasion resistance of the gloves; you will usually find that between 15 and 18 Gauge will be ideal.
  • Size – Work gloves will be available in different sizes, and you will need to get the correct size for a comfortable and elegant fit.
